The Problem
Mount Saint Mary's University needed help migrating all their website content as part of their comprehensive website redesign. They needed a contractor with front-end experience to come aboard and assist their Web Services team in any way they required and they needed one fast.
The Solution
I was able to come in and assist not only with the large amounts of content migration but also provide expertise in creating new content for pages that required it as well as adapting front-end elements to fit with the new website's redesigned style. Thanks to my contributions, the rest of the team was able to focus on other high priority tasks and working together we were able to get the new website launched on time.
The Skills Used
- Formstone CSS
- Adobe Photoshop
- Terminalfour
The Lessons Learned
Preparing for the wrong event is not preparation at all: There were several instances during this project when I spent time learning a framework or experimenting with page layouts in a CMS which were never used. At the time I thought that this investment would pay off in some way, but in hindsight I realize that this time would have been better spent on more important things.
Working with a team is incredibly rewarding: This project was a huge reminder of this lesson. Being freelance has me working on my own most of the time and the interactions I do have are with people who have less expertise in my area of work. Being able to work on issues in a diverse group with individuals who share my skills was motivating and fun!
